I though I would share the following with you all. It is from a fishing group I belong to which is world wide. This is an abstract taken from an Australian angler. Carp anglers ead it and weep. "Yes I do fish for Carp there are some monsters here, your not allowed to return them back to the water otherwise you get fined. They make fertilizer from them and also ground bait.Described as a pest by the Australian Government they will destroy and takeover fragile environments.Carp can be fun they put up an initial struggle then drag them to the bank,as a matter of fact when the weather gets better me and some friends are going carp fishing will post photos."
Following a recent course organized by the environment agency. Where Access Awareness and coaching Disable people issues were discussed. The course was run by Terry Mosely and Carey Sutton and many interested point were raised and indeed highlighted to the audience. It is worth highlighting that access to at least part of the fishery is now a legal requirement. It is also a growth area in numbers of anglers with disability one form or another taking up or returning to the sport. Coaching is another area where many more people are required to satisfy the demand in this particular area. If anyone wishes to become involved or if you simply wish to make sure that your fishery/club water conforms. A good place to start would be:- Dreamstone Academy or the BDAA who offer workshops on - Disability Awareness
- Coaching Disability
- Access Awareness

www.a-c-a.org admin@a-c-a.org 01568 620447 Dear ACA Supporter,
As this is the first time we've contacted you by e-mail, we'll start by giving you the opportunity to make it the last! If you don't want to receive any future updates, simply reply to this e-mail with the subject 'unsubscribe' and we'll remove your address. This e-mail update has been sent to all our active and recently-lapsed members. Unless we hear otherwise, we'll send you one of these about every one or two months. Please feel free to forward it to anyone you think might be interested in our work.
Legal Update
Our in-house lawyers have achieved spectacular success once again so far this year, settling more than 20 claims and recovering over £100,000 for our member clubs, fisheries and owners. They have also helped more than 115 member clubs and owners with legal issues related to angling. New cases taken on in the last 6 months include: pollution from cooking oil, landfill leachate, paper mill effluent, sewage, china clay, chemical works, mine tailings and slurry. We are also working on new cases involving exclusion of our members from access to their fishing, flood prevention works and the escape of farmed rainbow trout.
There's no way we can sum up all that work in this e-mail; please visit the 'case update' page on our website for the latest progress. You can also keep in touch with our latest press releases on the 'what's new' section of our site, including an update on the recent River Wandle pollution.
Since the spring, the ACA's legal team has grown - both geographically, with more cases in Scotland, and in number, with the appointment of Penny Gane as our new Legal Support Assistant.
Campaigns update
The ACA has continued to lobby government and its agencies about the need to have a radical rethink of water policy through the Blueprint for Water campaign (www.blueprintforwater.org.uk). This has led to us holding meetings with the Chief Executive and department heads of the Environment Agency, the Chief Executive of OFWAT and several government ministers. Defra's long awaited water strategy, and the opposition parties' policy reviews on water have all been influenced by the campaign. Please keep the pressure up by mentioning the Blueprint if you have contact with your MP.
We have been focusing recently on intermittent sewage discharges and the proposals to allow water companies to monitor their own performance. These campaigns have been picked up by the angling press and in The Times in Brian Clarke's monthly column and in a letter from our Chairman to the paper. See: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/article2563428.ece and: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/letters/article2570133.ece
We are currently recruiting a new Campaigns and Marketing Manager to expand these campaigns and to help raise awareness of our work.
Membership
We are delighted to report that our membership continues to increase in nearly all categories. Please help us spread the word by encouraging your friends/club/fishery to sign up at www.a-c-a.org/joinhere. If you would like membership leaflets to give out, please contact us and we'll send you as many as you want. New subscription rates for 2008 will be listed in the autumn newsletter which will be sent out this week to all our members. This mailing will include raffle tickets with a top prize of £2,500 in cash and runner up prizes sponsored by Daiwa; please send them back promptly so that you have a chance of winning.
Finally, thank you to all our members and donors for their support. The ACA depends entirely on their generosity to continue its fight to protect our rivers, canals, lakes and above all, our fish.
Best wishes and happy fishing from everyone at ACA HQ.

FISHERIES ACCREDITATION SCHEME LAUNCHED Angling has received a major boost with the launch of the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme, a major new initiative aimed at driving upwards the competence of fisheries managers and improving the management of fish in recreational fisheries. The scheme is a joint venture by the Institute of Fisheries Management, the Angling Foundation and the Professional Coarse Fisheries Association, supported by the Environment Agency. Fisheries will be invited to become inspected by qualified IFM professional members using the Institute’s ‘codes of practice’ as a baseline for the standards that will be assessed. If successful, the fishery will be issued with a certificate – at gold, silver or bronze level - and will be entitled to publicise the accreditation under a two-year licence agreement. The media launch at Portcullis House, opposite the Houses of Parliament, was hosted by Martin Salter MP, Labour’s Parliamentary spokesman for Angling. He was joined by speakers from the Institute of Fisheries Management, the Angling Foundation, the Environment Agency, the Professional Coarse Fisheries Association and the Fisheries & Angling Conservation Trust. This was followed by the public launch and workshop meeting, held in Nottingham, at which fishery owners and tenants joined in discussions on the Scheme and the IFM’s Biosecurity Code of Conduct. Initially, the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme is restricted to coarse fisheries, although there are plans to extend it to stillwater trout fisheries in future. Full details and application forms are available from:- Suraj Roopra, Fisheries Accreditation Scheme, Federation House, National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park, Warks, CV8 2RF. Tel: 02476 414999; Fax: 02476 414999; Email: suraj@sportsandplay.com; Website: www.fisheriesaccreditation.co.ukNOTES Further media inquiries should be directed to Bruno Broughton Tel: 01952 691515; email: bruno.broughton@virgin.net The Scheme partners are:- Angling Foundation The Foundation awards its accreditation to fishing net manufacturers and wholesalers that meet its accreditation standards, issuing a licence to use its distinctive water-lily logo on accredited products. Its funds are used to assist educational and conservation initiatives. Institute for Fisheries Management The IFM is the competent body for fisheries management which trains future professionals through its Fisheries Management Diploma, validated by the Open University. The Institute is also author of the ‘Codes of Practice for the Management of Intensively Stocked Stillwater Fisheries’. Professional Coarse Fisheries Association The Association protects and promotes the interests of its member fisheries through political action, media campaigns and partnership with other bodies. It encourages best practice, the development of high quality, accessible facilities and the conservation of fish, wildlife and the water environment. The Environment Agency The Environment Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. It supports and helped develop the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme, and it has provided vital financial assistance to enable the Scheme to commence.3. The active support and input of the national umbrella body for angling and fisheries, the Fisheries & Angling Conservation Trust (FACT), and the Fish Welfare Group were instrumental in the development and launch of the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme.

A message for Llyn Carfan.
Hi there just returned to south wales and thought i would send an e-mail to say what a great fishery you have down there, and as the parents' have a static van in Wiseman's bridge im sure you will be seeing a lt more of me. Friday was a good day starting with 5s to 8 pnd carp, hitting 13 by the end of the day, but christ Saturday was awesome, first hitting a 9, then a 4, as well as 2 others, and then from 2.30 till 6pm i had a 17, 14, 10, 9, 13.5 and the best fighting 15 vie had in a long time. 75% off dog biscuits. Amazing day out. Here are a few pics, until the camera returns from my old man which has the bigger bad boys with it. Also can i ask how much it is to camp the night with night fishing as myself and a few friends may venture up in a couple of weeks for a good weekend of it. Regards Neil Parry

I was recently sent this email.
Hi All
I got the email below yesterday. It took a minute to sign and reply to the email. There are arguments for and against on this subject – it’s up to you, information duly passed on! There’s been some media coverage on this and it can be viewed on the FACT website by clicking here http://www.factuk.co.uk/asp_pages/news.asp?type=5
Below is the wording of the petition you are asked to sign. I as a fishery owner which does contain large carp, shall not be signing. I feel that this is a particular nasty worded document. It suggests that the only poaching is by immigrants. Either the author is simply misinformed or he is simple and a member of the BNP.
Large carp poaching for profit by selling on to another fishery is not confined to immigrants. It is a problem which occurs and is carried out by British thieves as well. We must also ask ourselves about the morals of fishery owners who buy these fish from the thieves. ( I refuse to call the poachers as that suggest an old fashion romantic person taking one for the pot).
There is already an ongoing problem with fish being brought in from abroad and not through official channels. Clearly this has a very high risk of disease being spread through existing stock and spread around the country by innocent anglers.
I would urge all fishery owners to be vigilant against both of the above points and keep each other and the Environment agency informed of any suspicious activity in their areas. Think about it to loose a large carp to vermin both two legged and four is very annoying and expensive. But it is nothing compared to the difficulty owners will encounter if your whole stock is wiped out by decease. Or are closed down due to decease in your area.
How many years would it be before your water was deemed fit enough to restock?
How would you cope financially if your fishery was closed for a season or more due to being in an effected area?
However if you wish to sign or read the petition follow the link below.
Webmaster.
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to act immediately with severe penalties to stop immigrants stealing our inland fish stocks for food. More details
Submitted by Tony Barratt – Deadline to sign up by: 13 February 2008 –
As web master of this site I would encourage all you anglers to use it and please post mesages and pictures. Use the classified section to sell or buy your tackle.
